The Story
Fenced in by mountains on three sides, the Fergana Valley has its own microclimate and its own crafts tradition, largely untouched by the Silk Road tourist trail further west. Rishtan's blue-glazed ceramics have been made the same way for centuries; Margilan's silk mills still hand-dye ikat fabric; and home-hosted dinners here tend to be the most memorable meals of a trip through Uzbekistan.
